Born in Madrid (Spain), the Spanish-German classical guitarist Silvia Fuentes gives concerts at concert halls as well as at churches, art galleries and other locations, and thus brings her instrument to the audience. She shows a vast variety of sounds and expressions which are possible in the guitar, which the concert-goers enjoy. The attention should not only be on the technique, but, as she puts it, „the guitar must sing“. Concerts being a matter of life or death for her, she combines temperament and feeling. She is regularly invited to perform at churches, whose acoustics are splendid for the classical guitar. In her recitals, the musician earns praises from the audience.
Her extensive repertoire covers music from the Renaissance to the present day with a special love for Bach (Partita II, Suites 1005, 1006A etc.), Spanish (Rodrigo, Albéniz, Tárrega, Falla, de Lucía etc.), Latin American (Villa-Lobos, Barrios, Ponce, Piazzolla, Brouwer etc.) and Contemporary Music (Henze, Britten, Beaser, Takemitsu, Kagel etc.). She premiered „Attunements“ – a work of the American composer Laurence Traiger, written for her - on July 23, 2023, in the St. Paulus-Church in Munich (Germany).
Apart from her work as a soloist, she also is a dedicated chamber musician and is active in chamber music collaborations including guitar quartet and duo, duo with violin, violoncello, flute, vocals. She is a founding member of the Guitar Company directed by Stephan Stiens, which received the Dieter-Ullrich Music Prize. The ensemble has appeared at festivals of the Münchner Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (Munich Association for New Music) or Salzburg´s Aspekte. Highlights have been performances of Bach´s „The Art of the Fugue“, Haydn´s „Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross“ and Steve Reich´s „Electric Counterpoint“.
Having a continuous curiosity in projects bringing different art forms together, she is constantly interested in joining with other musical, visual and writing artists.
Although having studied law, and having played her instrument all her life since childhood, following her calling, being offered a junior study, she early studied with Hartmut Dentler, Dale Kavanagh and Stephan Stiens. She completed her music studies at the Conservatorio Profesional Jesús de Monasterio in Santander (Spain) with José-Manuel Fernández and graduated in Music at the Hochschule für Musik Munich with Susanne Schoeppe. In addition, she took masterclasses with other prominent guitarists such as Leo Brouwer, Manuel Gutiérrez, José Luis Rodrigo, Pepe Romero, Matthias Seidel, Alexander Frauchi.
Silvia Fuentes performs on spruce and cedar guitars made by Miguel Rodríguez and Edmund Blöchinger. As a member of the Old´s Cool Big Band she plays a PRS-electric guitar.
She currently lectures at the Faculty of Music Pedagogy of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich teaching guitar.
Silvia Fuentes is married and has four children. She currently resides mostly in Munich (Germany) and partly in Madrid and Santander (Spain).

Nacida en Madrid la guitarrista clásica hispano-alemana Silvia Fuentes se presenta en salas, así como en iglesias, galerías de arte y otros lugares, y acerca así su instrumento als público. Muestra una gran variedad de sonidos y expresiones posibles en la guitarra, que la audiencia disfruta. La atención no debe centrarse sólo en la técnica, sino que, como ella dice, “la guitarra debe cantar”. Para ella, los conciertos son una cuestión de vida o muerte, por lo que combina pasión y alma. Es invitada regularmente a actuar en iglesias, cuya acústica es espléndida para la guitarra clásica. En sus recitales, la músico se gana los elogios del público.
Su amplio repertorio abarca la música desde el Renacimiento hasta nuestros días, con un amor especial por Bach (Partita II, Suites 1005, 1006A, etc.), la música española (Rodrigo, Albéniz, de Lucía, etc.), la latinoamericana (Ginastera, Villa-Lobos, Barrios, Ponce, Piazzolla, Brouwer, etc.) y la contemporánea (Henze, Britten, Beaser, Takemitsu, Kagel, etc.) Es capaz de cautivar a la audiencia con una Suite de Bach, tanto como con una pieza de Paco de Lucía o de Ginastera. Estrenó “Attunements” – una obra del compositor estadounidense Laurence Traiger, escrita para ella – el 23 de julio de 2023, en la iglesia St. Paulus de Múnich.
Aparte de su trabajo como solista, también es una dedicada músico de cámara y participa activamente en conjuntos de música de cámara que incluyen cuarteto y dúo de guitarras, dúo con violín, violonchelo, flauta y voz. Es miembro fundador de la Guitar Company dirigida por Stephan Stiens, que recibió el Premio de Música Dieter-Ullrich. El conjunto ha actuado en festivales de la Münchner Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (Asociación de Múnich para la Nueva Música) o la Aspekte de Salzburgo. Destacan sus interpretaciones de “El arte de la fuga” de Bach, “Las siete últimas palabras de Cristo en la cruz” de Haydn y “Contrapunto eléctrico” de Steve Reich. Con una continua curiosidad por los proyectos que reúnen diferentes formas de arte, Silvia Fuentes está constantemente interesada en unirse a otros artistas musicales, visuales y escritores.
A pesar de haber estudiado Derecho, y habiendo tocado su instrumento toda la vida desde niña, siguiendo su vocación y pudiendo haber sido estudiante junior estudió tempranamente con Hartmut Dentler, Dale Kavanagh y Stephan Stiens. Completó sus estudios musicales en el Conservatorio Profesional Jesús de Monasterio de Santander con José-Manuel Fernández y se graduó en el Conservatorio Superior Múnich (Alemania) con Susanne Schoeppe. Además, realizó clases magistrales con otros destacados guitarristas como Leo Brouwer, Manuel Gutiérrez, José Luis Rodrigo, Pepe Romero, Matthias Seidel, Alexander Frauchi.
Silvia toca guitarras maestras de abeto y de cedro de Miguel Rodríguez y Edmund Blöchinger. Como miembro de la Old´s Cool Big Band, toca una guitarra eléctrica PRS.
Actualmente imparte clases en la Facultad de Pedagogía Musical de la Universidad Ludwig Maximilian de Múnich (Alemania).
Silvia está casada y tiene cuatro hijos. En la actualidad reside principalmente en Múnich (Alemania) y parcialmente en Madrid y Santander (España).
